Background Highlights

My work for the last 30 years serving and educating children and families has provided great insight into the collective efforts to help all children and families experience success at home, in the community, and in school. For example, while in New York City as Director of Youth Development Programs, my team of over 110 staff members helped more than 1,700 children and their families experience academic, social, mental and emotional achievements. In addition to helping thousands of youth and families with their individual needs, my work as an administrator has helped with creating community forums and solutions for our most challenged populations at the local, state, and national levels. An example of my experience in bringing partners together to impact positive change in the financial stability of communities involved my work with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to coordinate a successful statewide Economic Justice Symposium, the first of its kind in Delaware. The one-day event was the beginning of communitywide conversations and a call to action to address the financial challenges and educational gaps that exist with children and families throughout Delaware. I have also served on other local and national projects to address the complex and interrelated issues related to economic and educational gaps, specifically as they relate to diversity and inclusion. These experiences are highlights of my commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all, especially children, through joint learning and working relationships.
